# How to fix IPTV buffering and freezing

A stream that stops to load, freezes or drops is the most common IPTV complaint. Before changing anything, find out where the problem is: your connection, your device, or your provider’s server.

## First, find out whose fault it is

- **One channel, or all of them?** If only some channels freeze, the problem is almost always on the provider’s side, with those streams.
- **One device, or every device?** If the same channel plays smoothly on another device on the same network, look at the first device and its connection.
- **Only in the evening, or during big matches?** Trouble at the busiest times usually means the provider’s servers cannot keep up.
- **Does a speed test agree?** Run one on the device itself. For each stream playing at once, allow roughly 10 Mbps for HD and 25 Mbps for 4K, and look at how steady it is, not just the best figure.

## Fixes on your side

- **Use a cable, or 5 GHz Wi-Fi.** A television box on Ethernet, or close to the router on 5 GHz, is the biggest single improvement for most people.
- **Restart the router and the device.** It clears more than it should.
- **Pause other heavy use.** Large downloads, cloud backups and other streams share the same connection.
- **Try another version of the channel.** Many providers list a channel several times, in HD, FHD and SD. A lower quality needs less of your connection.
- **Stay within your connections.** A line that allows one stream at a time can fail when another device starts playing on it.
- **Keep the app up to date.** Players get better at recovering from bad streams.

## When it is the provider

If the trouble follows the channel and not your device, or arrives with the evening rush, it is on the provider’s servers, and no player can make a server faster than it is. Tell your provider which channels and at what times: good providers move busy channels to other servers. If it never improves, it may be time for a better provider.

## What Aina does about it

- **Reconnects by itself** when a stream drops, rather than leaving you with an error.
- **Plays with libVLC**, which copes well with the imperfect streams IPTV servers often send.
- **Keeps out of the way.** On a line that allows one connection, a download waits while you watch, so the two never take the line from each other.

## Questions and answers

### Why does IPTV buffer only in the evening?

Evenings and big live events are when most people watch, and a provider’s servers or its connection can run short. If it happens every evening, tell your provider.

### How much internet speed do I need for IPTV?

Roughly 10 Mbps for HD and 25 Mbps for 4K for each stream at once, on a steady connection. A cable or 5 GHz Wi-Fi helps more than extra speed.

### Will a different player stop buffering?

A good player recovers from drops and plays more kinds of stream, which helps. It cannot make a slow server faster.
